URBAN FRAMES

A new transit station for Sullivan Square in Boston attempts to stitch together the existing neighborhood while supporting an existing highway above and a transit station below. A public realm is prioritized on the ground floor and vehicles are directed above and below the ground plane in order to re-pedestrianize the neighborhood. Cuts in the public ground create views into the transit station below and help to frame the everyday theater of urban life. Trains, cars, and commuters move through this frame and become the actors in order to elevate the perception of the public realm.
