ROTATED TRIPLE
Studio Leader: Sean Canty

Location: Harvard University
Course: Core I1
The “Triple-Decker” is a housing typology common in Boston because of its history as early 20th century immigrant housing. This project renovated two “triple-decker” houses into an artist’s residency and gallery space. Three rotations that were made in plan, section, and elevation serve as the primary driver of space and work to create a gallery along with two studio spaces. The rotation in plan occurs on the ground floor, forcing the original rooms of the house to contort into a new orientation. The rotation in section generates a studio space with an expansive skylight while the rotation in elevation creates a spacious third-floor studio.
