ROSLINDALE DISTILLERY
Studio Leader: Eric Höweler
Location: Harvard University
Course: Core III
This project explores industrial production as theater, utilizing a series of stages that mimic the process of whiskey distillation. Four stages protrude from a central circulation spine and are each dedicated to a different step in the production process. One stage showcases the handling of raw materials. The next stage reveals the mashing and fermentation processes. The largest stage houses the column stills for distillation while the final stage reveals a cut into the basement where the whiskey is lowered into the ground to be aged. The back of house programs, such as the office and mechanical space, are lifted into the thickened roof.
