ROCKAWAY PUBLIC SPACE PLAN

Studio Leader: Ed Wall
Location: Harvard University
Course: SES 5519

The Rockaway peninsula faces an extreme threat from flooding and this project attempts to incorporate new public green-spaces with flood defenses using community input gained from a co-design workshop with residents. This plan focuses on rehabilitating vacant industrial land and bridging these new green-spaces with a public nature path that often doubles as a flood defense. In addition, a new ferry terminal connects the neighborhood to the rest of NYC while a series of disused barges are transformed into small vendor spaces.
