ADA FOAH RADIO STATION
Studio Leader: Olayinka Dosekun-Adjei
Location: Harvard University
Course: STU 1307
Situated on the southern coast of Ghana, Fort Kongenstein was a Danish trading fort that had fallen into disrepair. The community of Ada Foah is seeking a way to preserve and revitalize the trading post, especially as it faces potential destruction from rapid coastal erosion. Building on Ghana’s rich traditions of oral history as well as the contemporary popularity of radio, this project proposes a community radio station and audio archive that can record and broadcast both the history and the contemporary issues of the community.
The community radio station and audio archive allows for both moments of individual reflection and communal engagement. The project attempts to respect the existing history and structure of the fort while introducing new programs that can allow the community to re-engage with the site.
